Dedicated Servers Hosting Unmasked

When we speak of hosting web servers, there are 3 main types - shared hosting servers, VPS (private virtual web servers) and dedicated servers. Shared servers host many clients and therefore the resources per account are restricted, virtual private servers give you more server configuration freedom, but also influence other VPS web servers on the hardware node if utilized heedlessly, and dedicated servers offer you the freedom to perform everything you choose without intervening with anyone else.

Why would you require a dedicated servers?

Dedicated servers are traditionally much more high-priced than shared hosting web servers or VPSs. Why would anyone, then, want to use them? The reply is quite simple. If your company has a high resource-requiring website, or simply has very special server setup requirements, the proper option is a dedicated servers. For someone who is ready to invest in safety and reliability, the bigger price is of no concern. You have complete root access and can utilize 100% of the hosting server's system resources without anyone else utilizing these resources and messing with your web sites.

Hardware architectures

The majority of hosting corporations, including us at North Vancouver Web Hosting, offer different hardware architectures you can choose from in accordance with your needs. The hardware architectures include different varieties of processors, a different amount of cores, different RAM memory and hard drive sizes and different web traffic quotas. You can select a hosting Control Panel, which is a useful interface if you would like to utilize the dedicated servers for website hosting purposes only and prefer not to use a Secure Shell client for all the modifications you will be making. We offer 3 sorts of web hosting CP software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The web hosting CP of your preference

If you are a self-reliant Linux OS user (our dedicated hosting web servers are running on Linux or other Unix-based OSs), you could manage your dedicated servers through an SSH terminal exclusively. That, however, could be awkward, even more so if you choose to grant full root access to somebody else who has less technical abilities than yourself. This is why having Control Panel software installed is a good idea. The Hepsia hosting CP user interface that we provide does not give you complete root access and is chiefly appropriate for someone who maintains plenty of sites that consume plenty of resources, but desires to administer the sites, databases and email aliases using an easy-to-use hosting CP. The DirectAdmin and cPanel hosting Control Panels, on the other hand, grant full server root access and have 3 access levels - root, reseller and user. If you plan to resell hosting accounts instead of using the dedicated servers only for yourself, you should select one of these two.

Server monitoring and backup services

Last but not least, there is the matter of monitoring the dedicated servers and of backing it up. In the event of a predicament with your dedicated web hosting server, such as an unresponsive Apache or a network outage, it is advisable to have some kind of monitoring platform activated. Here at North Vancouver Web Hosting the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you have a Managed Services package, they monitor the separate services on the dedicated servers too. Backups are also an additional feature - the hosting vendor offers you data backups on our own backup servers. You could choose a kind of RAID that would permit you to have the same data on two server hard disk drives as a protective measure in case of a server hard disk failure, or in case someone whom you have given full server root access deletes something unintentionally.
